An Ode to Hands

image

Hands are awesome. I don’t think we give them enough credit. I mean without hands we wouldn’t be able to do a lot.

A craftsmen wouldn’t be able to craft things.

A musician wouldn’t be able to play music.

A writer wouldn’t be able to write.

Without hands, we wouldn’t have beautiful art, stunning music or captivating books.

Think of how much there wouldn’t be in this world without hands.

As a woodworker, gardener, pianist and avid reader, I am very happy there are hands in this world.

So I will bless You as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

Psalms 63:4

With hands we worship God and serve Him. Isn’t that the most important thing?

Praise God for hands!

#32- Took Care of the Household

My mom went on a road trip with a friend for two days, so me and my sister stepped up to the plate and became “Mom” for a couple days. 🙂

We cleaned dishes, did laundry, cooked meals (no catastrophes!), cleaned up messes, (NOT a result of our cooking), did school with William, and fulfilled all the other tasks that Mom would have done. Not only did I gain an appreciation for what my Mom does, I also learned about running a household. Our parents want us girls to be able to successfully run a household by the time we leave this household. Things like this are a step toward that goal. What goals do you have for when you leave your parents household??? When we do leave we want to be prepared and not just living by trial and error. We are arrows that are shot out into the world after we have learned from our parents.

Thank you!

Its That Time Of Year!

“It’s that time of year!” Mom and Dad say when you question the packages on the porch.

“It’s that time of year.” you shrug as you throw your change in the Salvation Army bucket.

“It’s that time of year? Again?” wonder your grandparents as they reflect on all the other memories they have had at ‘that time of years’ past.

“It’s that time of year!” your little brothers and sisters giggle as you string lights all around and cover the Christmas tree with ornaments.

“It’s that time of year.” your parents say as they make lists of people to get gifts for.

“It’s that time of year.” you say as you take just one more helping of sweets.

You know what I am talking about Christmas but what is this time of year? A time of gifts, family, lights and happiness? Or is it something more?

Lots of people say that ‘Christmas isn’t about giving gifts’ Well, yeah actually that is all that Christmas is about. Christmas is about God giving his son to die for our sins and us recieving eternal life through him. That is what Christmas is about. There is a great Christmas talk by Louie Giglio that I am sure you will all enjoy.

Enjoy! and Merry Christmas!

P.S. If you can not open the link for some reason just google ‘The Twelve Words of Christmas Louie Giglio’ and it should come up. The full video is on Vimeo and a couple excerpts are on youtube. Hope you find that helpful!

#26- I Am Second, God is First

So recently, I was struggling with wanting to be in the spotlight. Other people I am very close to were in the spotlight and I was backstage. My mind knew that the feeling of attention I wanted was wrong, but my sinful heart would not submit. I also felt lost, hopelessly lost in the middle. I told myself that I was mundane, normal (you all are like Priscilla, normal? No way!) After talking to my mom and reading scripture I realized that I am second and always will be. And I am loved like crazy by God and others! For goodness sakes, the silly thoughts us humans have! I read Isaiah 43:1-7, what a wonderful passage! God tells us that he loves us, we are honored and precious in his sight and he would give big, mighty Eygpt in exchange for us. Me. You. A whole rich nation in exchange for me?!? That’s right, God never makes junk.

#21- Gave Away One of My Blankets to Refugees

So recently, some people in our church were collecting blankets for refugees. I wanted to give a blanket so we got an extra blanket that we had and got ready to give it. I was passing by my bedroom when I saw that I had two blankets on my bed. Both were Christmas gifts and they were very warm and cozy. I realized though that I was super blessed to have two blankets on my bed when others had none. I also had a comforter. Stunned by my blessings and gratitude I hurriedly grabbed my extra blanket, washed it and gave it to the refugees. Some things can be hard but rewarding.

“The wicked borrows but does not pay back, but the righteous is generous and gives.”

Psalm 37:21

Let’s look at what we have and then give even more.

We can love Jesus in the hungry, the naked and the destitute who are dying…. If you love, you will be willing to serve. And you will find Jesus in the distressing disguise of the poor.
